Selection criteria

Select Dual Lock by substrate and closure profile

First establish which components must be separated again and what loads the closed joint will carry. Then compare the available installation height, mushroom head profile, adhesive backing and surfaces of both parts. The range includes black and transparent versions as well as rolls and pre-cut shapes. The suitability of a particular version follows from its product data and the intended application.

3M DUAL LOCK SELECTION GUIDE

Specify a removable joint for your application

With 3M Dual Lock, mushroom-shaped heads interlock when pressed together; the parts are pulled apart to open the joint. Unlike a permanent mounting tape, the fastening is intended to be separated repeatedly. Its adhesive backing remains attached to the respective component and must suit that surface. The listed SJ3540 uses a synthetic rubber adhesive, while SJ3560 uses a clear acrylic adhesive. Thinner versions such as SJ4570 are available where installation height is limited. Match closure force, access for opening, substrate and required supply format to your component. The specific version still needs to be checked for the application.

3M DUAL LOCK QUESTIONS

How does 3M Dual Lock work?

The mushroom-shaped heads on the two fastener sides interlock when pressed together; the parts can be pulled apart to reopen the joint. This makes 3M Dual Lock suitable for components that must remain accessible, such as panels or covers. The adhesive layer attaches each fastener side to its substrate. The closure profile and adhesive therefore need to be selected together. The holding force and suitability for repeated opening must be checked against the chosen version and the loads in the application.

How do the Dual Lock versions in the range differ?

They differ in closure profile, adhesive, colour and supply format, among other things. The listed SJ3540 has a synthetic rubber adhesive and is described for indoor use. Transparent SJ3560 uses an acrylic adhesive; its product data specify indoor and outdoor use. SJ4570 is a thinner version with a modified acrylic adhesive. The suitable version depends especially on the surface, available installation height and desired opening behaviour. Compare the details of each item in the listing before making a selection.

What information is useful when requesting a Dual Lock cut size?

Describe both surfaces, the component and the intended fastening area. The available installation space, loads, frequency of opening and environmental conditions also help when selecting a 3M Dual Lock fastener. If you need a particular width, shape or supply format, include those details as well. Krückemeyer GmbH can then assess suitable starting material and application-specific converting. The technical properties depend on the selected product version; cutting alone does not establish them.
